Budget Cut in Education; A Euthanasia?

By  RONALD ALLAN FABELLON

The great havoc in our contemporary had already unfolded. Amidst economic turbulence and globally threatening news – a drastic and desperate move of the government was taken- the Budget Cut. The current administration of President Aquino who pledges for social equality defies a certain provision of their trust- Ang Tuwid na Daan. How could it be that budget cut in education will lessen the government expenditures while putting its best foot in military matters?

First and foremost it is already a violation of our basic law, which guarantees that the education should and must have the greater portion of budget allocation. Hence, it destabilized the bone of our hope that education changes lives. Consequently, education nowadays is a mere privileged to those who can afford yet a dream for those who cannot. It is simply a resemblance, to deprive us to our basic right and to mourn for our ignorance.

Nowadays, our educational system decline gradually compared to our neighboring countries in South East. Do we need to wait until such time come when we already felt the turmoil of educational disaster. Our government sought neither to alleviate nor to improve the quality of our life yet they deprived us to learn. Do we need to see a country consist of uneducated and unemployed citizens who only wait in any government aid? Or A country who are dying in hunger and famine.

This action took precedent to kill our dreams and our aspirations. To lessen the expenditures is to minimize corruption in the bureaucracy or to totally eradicate it in the system. To end up, it presumes that it gradually killed us, a euthanasia in disguise.
