By  RONALD ALLAN B. FABELLON

The Society of Public Administration Student (SPAS) together with its Dept. Chair initiates the 1st ever Public Ad Day with the theme “Public Ad Challenges: Promoting Christian Values”. Just held last Sept. 17, 2011 at the AVR, RSU Main Campus had marked another breakthrough to the youngest department in the College of Arts and Sciences.                                                              The said activity was conducted by the Student Organization in order to develop camaraderie among the Public Administration students and to promote public awareness. In times when the bureaucracy was us baffled by corruption, leaders with little knowledge in proper governance and low-moral values, produce outcomes which are unjust and inhumane.

To cope with this issue and to prepare the future Public Servants, a seminar on Values Formation was held. A young gal equipped with high moral values and undeniable intellect in this turf was invited to be the resource speaker, in the person of Ms. Lorraine Gaac who had just finished her standard Ministerial course from the Odiongan Foursquare Bible College shared a common belief yet being ignored by most public servant-their moral Values. The activity commenced with a Photo Exhibit in the CAS building Façade. This exhibit undertaken to attract more enrollee in this course program. Then, an open forum was taken; many issues were raised including the problem in the small percentage of enrollee in the Public Ad Course and many more. Afterwards, the Seminar on Values Formation followed, the speaker had particularly discussed and described the Pre-Spanish Philippine Social Class System divided, as follows: 1.The Maginoo which includes the datu, rajah and Gat. 2. The Maharlika consists of the relatives of the former 3. Timawa, they are the free citizen 4. The Slaves that includes the Aliping Saguiguilid and Aliping Namamahay.

The speakers pointed out that Public servants are like the slaves and particularly used a Biblical versed: “If anyone wants to be the first, he must be the very last and the servants of all” (Mark 9:35). The seminar had a great impact to the Public ad students. Lastly, in the afternoon the Palaro ng lahi was initiated just to break the monotony. Indeed, the Celebration of the Public Ad Day was a successful one. The CAS Torch Staffs congratulate the SPAS and its Chairman Mr. Mark Calimbo for the job well-done.
